How to properly care for your Christmas tree
Natural Christmas trees are beautiful but they do require special attention and care to keep them in great shape. Below are some tips for how to care for your natural tree:
Water, water, water!: More than anything else, your tree needs water to survive. Be sure to check the water level in the tree every day and add water when needed. In the first day, a tree can absorb up to a gallon or more of water, so make sure to monitor how much water your tree needs. Don’t miss a day and don’t give your tree eggnog!
Natural light: Place your tree in a spot in your house where it will receive plenty of natural sunlight from outside. Sunlight helps the tree keep its needles and preserve its freshness, plus if you place it front of a window, it will have a great view of the neighborhood!
No heat near the Tree: Heat does not bode well for natural trees. Make sure your tree is not placed too closely to a radiator, fireplace, air fryer, or any other heat sources that will cause the tree to dry out too quick or, in a worse case scenario, start a fire.
Trim branches: Natural trees tend to get a bit scraggly without proper care. Look closely at your tree and trim any dead or brown branches to keep it looking healthy and fresh!
Monitor for pests: Natural trees tend to attract pests such as beetles and spiders. Be on the lookout for any insects that may crawl along the branches or the ground, and take action if needed.
Say goodbye when it’s time: Natural trees will become very dry and a fire hazard after a month or so. Once the holiday season is over, make sure to dispose of your tree to avoid any hassle. To avoid insects or fires, be sure to properly throw out your tree. Consider visiting a tree recycling program where the tree is chipped and used as mulch or utilize curbside pickup if that’s available to you.
A natural tree will look beautiful in your home and with these steps, it will stay healthy and fresh for longer. Good luck and happy holidays!
