Here are some unique Christmas decoration ideas

Every year, we decorate our houses to celebrate the Christmas season. Traditional decorations and ornaments are lovely but if you are looking to be more creative, here are some tips to think outside of the box while decorating your home:

  1. Bring the outdoors inside: Use natural elements from the outdoors to incorporate a realistic, rustic feel to your Christmas decorations. Consider using pinecones, berries, branches, to create unique decorations around your home. Some even spray paint these items white, gold, red, or green, to match the other decorations in their home.

  2. Coordinate your Decorations in a Theme: Consider establishing a theme for your decorations based on a favorite Christmas Carol, Movie, or memory. For example, you could design your decorations based on the movie The Polar Express, using patterns, colors, and decorations to reflect moments from the movie.

  3. Try Unconventional materials: There are many different ways to decorate your house that don’t involve purchasing plastic or manufactured products. Consider using materials such as fabric, paper, or recycled materials such as cardboard or old artificial trees, to create unique decorations for your home.

  4. Lights, lights, lights!: Lights are usually used for hanging on your Christmas tree but they can also be used around your house in a variety of creative ways to bring your living room to life! For instance, you can hang lights over banisters in your house, across your mantles, down your stair case railing, or along the walls. Lights will bring your decorations to life!

  5. Create your own: It is easy to make your own decorations from scratch such as homemade painted or carved ornaments, garlands (ex, a popcorn garland or paper snowflake), or wreaths with all of your favorite colors for your front door. Not only will you appreciate your decorations more because they were made by you, but you will also enjoy the process of making them with your loved ones.

  6. Vintage!: Incorporate vintage style decorations, ornaments, or Christmas cards for a unique and nostalgic feel in your home. If possible, you can go through old Christmas decorations left from older family members or check out your local second-hand store during the holiday season.

  7. Flowers & Plants: If you want your decorations to reflect natural beauty, add some greenery to your home by using plants and flowers. Some flowers/plants to consider are holly, mistletoe, Chrismas cacti, or pointsettas. Don’t forget to water your plants!

  8. Mix it up!: Don’t feel obligated to stick to the usual Christmas colors such as red, green, silver, or gold. Choose interesting and unconventional colors such as purple, blue, or black to create a distinctive look.

There is not one right way to decorate your home. Be creative, think outside the box, and design your decorations with your goals in mind. Most importantly, have fun!
