Creative ideas for hiding your Elf on a Shelf
Since its creation, the Elf on the Shelf has become an integral part of celebrating the holidays with children. As more people buy the Elf on the Shelf, the more elaborate and creative the elf’s adventures during the night have become. Looking for a new way to hide your elf and need help brainstorming ideas? Here are some ideas to get the ball rolling!
Create a mini-scene: Make your elf look like it’s having the time of their life while the children are asleep. Set up a gingerbread house and place your elf inside (the Elf was decorating all night long) or create a ski slope with powdered sugar and popsicle sticks to show your elf skiing down it.
Use household items: Take a look around your home and try to find some every day household objects that will be a great hiding spot for your elf. Some examples to consider might be a laundry detergent bottle or a toilet paper roll.
Try the outdoors: Perhaps your Elf got a little extra curious last night and ventured into the back or front yard. Look for a great hiding spot for your elf such as hanging from a tree, in a birdhouse, sitting on wind chimes, or chilling on an outdoor chair.
Try food: Just like anyone else, Elfs get hungry too. Maybe last night your Elf snuck into your chocolate chips and left them spilled on the counter. Another idea could be placing your elf into a dry bowl of cereal, as if they are relaxing in a hot tub.
Use clothing: Your elf could play dress up in your children’s toy clothes. See if you have any clothing items small enough to fit on the elf such as a cozy robe, Santa hat, or a sweater!
Your Elf gets Competitive: Maybe your elf enjoys playing board games while the children are asleep! Perhaps they were in the middle of a competitive game of Scrabble, Yatzee, or Monopoly, and lost track of time.
Try Christmas decorations: Your Elf is in the Christmas spirit! Place them in creative spots such as in a stocking, hanging from Christmas lights, or sitting on an ornament.
I hope these ideas help you think of some creative ways to hide your Elf on the Shelf. Don’t feel limited to the ideas we provided, but try to think outside of the box and create something that will bring a smile to your child’s face. Above all, have fun, snap some pictures, and have a very Merry Christmas!
